Control Methods

Display Modes

Quad Mode

In quad mode, the screen is split into four fields of equal size each displaying the entire contents of four different video sources.
- Fluid, real-time video performance with 60 frames per second (fps) in all four quadrants.

Full Screen Mode

In full screen mode, one of the four video sources is displayed in full screen size and maximum resolution.

Picture in Picture (PIP) Mode

In PIP mode, the full screen display of one of the four video sources is accompanied by one or three small images (thumbnails) of the three other video sources on the right hand margin of the screen allowing simultaneous monitoring.
Size, position and selection of the thumbnails are customizable.
Scan feature: cycle through two different sources at set intervals for the larger image.

Dual Mode

In dual mode, the left halves of the full screen images from two video sources are displayed side by side at full size.

Fade Through Black

When switching channels or display modes, the previous image fades out to black, and the next image fades in from black.
Customizable with five speed settings, and can be enabled or disabled by the user.

Win Mode

In Win mode, each video source is displayed in its own separate, detached window.
Size, position and selection of the windows are customizable.
Presets of the window positioning can be saved.

Control Methods

Front Panel Interface

Use front panel buttons to locally change ports or to select a display mode.
LEDs indicate currently selected port and display mode.

Keyboard/Mouse

Use hotkey commands or hotmouse commands to select display mode and to select ports.
Control multiple PCs displayed on a split screen with a single keyboard/mouse – no switching required.
- Simply move the mouse across the split screen to the desired PC screen and activate it with a simple left mouse click.

On Screen Display (OSD)

Select display modes and computers with On Screen Display (OSD).
Use the front panel buttons or your keyboard to operate the OSD.
OSD controls for hotkeys, OSD position, quad mode, PIP mode, brightness, contrast, phase, Horz- and Vert-center alignment adjustment.

RS232

Control the unit with XML-based protocol via the RS232 port.
Three DCP modes – off, control, synchronize.
Baud rate: 57600.

Display video from four computers simultaneously on multiple screens and switch the audio to different speakers

Interconnect the SPLITMUX® Quad Screen Splitter with the VEEMUX® Audio/Video Matrix Switch to simultaneously display video signals from four different computers on multiple screens while switching the audio from each computer to different speakers.

Monitors and speakers can be extended up to 600 feet (183 meters) away by interconnecting the XTENDEX® VGA + Audio Extender and the VEEMUX® switch.
Save Space on Mobile Video Surveillance Missions

Eliminate the need to carry multiple monitors/LCDs on a surveillance mission in a vehicle. The SPLITMUX Quad Screen Splitter splits a screen into various display areas, showing the input from four different video sources at once.

Ideal for counter-terrorism, border patrol, law enforcement, military, or medical and industrial applications.
Cascade mulitple Quad Screen Splitters to connect up to 16 video sources to one display.

Display video from up to 16 video sources simultaneously on one touch screen monitor by cascading SPLITMUX® Quad Screen Splitters. With all of the Quad Screen Splitters in Quad Mode, a master splitter connects to four slave splitters, with each slave splitter connecting to four DVI video sources.

If less than four Quad Screen Splitters are cascaded, the unused channels on the master splitter will need to be disabled. Example: If two Quad Screen Splitters are cascaded from the master splitter, and connected to inputs one and two, then inputs three and four would need to be disabled.

Note: Higher refresh rates output smoother video, but the best frame rate that can be displayed for each quadrant on the display is about 15 frames/sec.
Extend Touchscreen Monitor, Keyboard, & Mouse Up to 200ft Away From Quad Screen Splitter

The ST-C5USBVT Transparent USB Extender with VGA Video can be connected to the SPLITMUX-DVI-4(RT) to locate a remote touchscreen monitor, keyboard, and mouse up to 200 feet away from the quad screen splitter. Use USB male Type A to male Type B and DVI-I male to VGA male cables to connect the local extender unit to the SPLITMUX.

A local monitor can also be connected to the ST-C5USBVT transmitter. To control the local monitor, connect a USB hub to the second SPLITMUX-DVI-4(RT) console USB port to set up a keyboard and mouse.
Extend the Quad Screen Splitter Output Up to 1,650 feet (503 meters) Away via Fiber

The ST-FOUSB2DARS-LC DVI USB Fiber Optic Extender can be connected to the SPLITMUX-DVI-4(RT) to locate a remote monitor, keyboard, and mouse up to 1,650 feet (503 meters) away via two duplex multimode LC 50-micron cable. Use the DVI-VGA video converter to connect a VGA monitor to the DVI USB extender.

A local monitor can also be connected to the ST-FOUSB2DARS-LC transmitter. To control the local monitor, connect the keyboard and mouse to the USB Type A ports on the transmitter and enable the "local mode" of USB operation options.

To control the remote monitor, connect the keyboard and mouse to the USB Type A ports on the receiver and enable "remote mode" of USB operation options. Note that control for "local mode" and "remote mode" cannot be activated at the same time, but both local and remote monitors will simultaneously display video. Additional USB devices, such as a USB scanner, USB printer, etc. can also be connected to the receiver and accessed in either operation mode.
Display Video from 64 Sources on a Single Monitor by Cascading 21 Quad Screen Splitters

Display video from up to 64 video sources simultaneously on one monitor by cascading the Quad Screen Splitters. With all the Quad Screen Splitters in Quad Mode, connect one master splitter to four sub-master splitters, which are connected to four slave splitters each. Each slave splitter is connected to four DVI video sources. If a VGA source or display is used, a DVI-VGA video converter can be used to connect the source to the splitter or the splitter to the display. It is recommended to use the SPLITMUX-DVI-4RT as the master splitter as Win mode will enable a more flexible arrangement of the 64 sources compared to Quad mode. The unused channels on the master splitter will have to be disabled if less units are in the cascade. Example: if the sub-master splitters are connected to inputs one and two, then inputs three and four would need to be disabled. Note: when cascading with 64 sources, the SPLITMUX will only support video. The max recommended cascade with KVM is 16 sources using 6 SPLITMUX units.

"The SPLITMUX-DVI-4 is a nice product. We used it for our audio multitrack workstations on Stand Up To Cancer, a television show, and it worked very well. We used it again last weekend on a taping of a Kathy Griffin special where it also worked well. I showed it to a number of folks on those shows who were quite impressed.

I've spent time trying to get it to fail (because in live television if it can fail, it will) - powering things in the wrong order, connecting and reconnecting things, changing resolutions, and it always seems to deal with it. Its ability to auto-scale anything seems to work very well. The hotkeys and the "hotmouse" functionality, both of which I thought were gimmicks, ended up being the primary user interface. Note - the ability to set our own hotkey combination is important - we ended up using ctrl-alt-windows because that's available. The default of ctrl-alt is used in too many audio workstations.

One nice small feature - our operators all want to use Kensington trackballs, and Kensingtons will not switch smoothly with any KVM, as Kensington will tell you. I've tried almost all of them. The SPLITMUX unit keeps the connection so when we switch to a computer, the Kensington is operational. Whatever you're doing with the Kensington HID, it works.
